Viva Las Vegas
It’s that time of year again! I’m sure when some you read that your mind jumps to NFR. I used to be one of those people before I met my husband. I looked forward to the NFR the day after it got over the previous year. When I was little, my dreams were to make the NFR one day. I wrote a story in the 6thgrade about how I would pull up in a red Ford F350 and my Sundowner trailer. I would unload my prized buckskin horse and we would win every round. My taste in truck color and brand of trailer may have changed, and the closest thing I have to a buckskin is a dun, but I still have the dream of getting there one day horseback.
Growing up we would go every year, and each year I would look back on my outfits and laugh at what I thought was cool the year before. Style evolves so much, and it is fun (and sometimes extremely tiring) to keep up with the trends. Before I met my husband, I had never been to the PBR finals, the professional bull riding finals that take place in Las Vegas about a month before the NFR. But now it is the “time of year” I look forward to!
Let’s be honest, I also stress over it a bit. Last year we had 14 bulls in Vegas with us. That’s 14 bulls to feed and water twice a day, clean their pens, exercise, and look after for 11+ days. It was a lot for my husband and I to do on top of the other things we have going while we are there. Brandon mentioned we would never take that many again. Well guess what, this year we are taking over 20. I know, I know, there are lots of people out there that have that many bulls, and even more. Here is where the stressful part comes in for me; I think I have to look perfect in all my outfits I planned months before. I have to have a day outfit, a night outfit, I have to have my workout clothes and my bull feeding clothes. I also can’t forget to pack my cowboy hat and button down so I can flank some of our bulls. My arms are getting tired just thinking about how heavy I get my bags! Not to mention the jewelry! I also sell livestock insurance, so you can usually catch me carrying my computer around everywhere too.
I know it can be hard to see beauty/fashion bloggers, influencers, and even your friends making a big deal about Vegas fashion. If you’re not going, you might have FOMO. If you are going, you’re worried if you’re going to be wearing the right thing. My advice, IF YOU LIKE IT AND FEEL COMFORTABLE IN IT, WEAR IT. Oh…and always add turquoise! I need to take my own advice, but don’t get too caught up in your outfit for the day or night, that you forget to live in the moment and enjoy the time and experiences. If we are being honest, I didn’t even wear some of the new clothes I bought for the occasion last year. Don’t get me wrong, I still plan my outfits, jewelry, shoes, etc. Don’t think I don’t have a section in my closet dedicated to “Vegas Clothes” with the tags attached. I am a born and bred shopper. I don’t need an excuse to buy new clothes, but when I have one I feel a bit more justified spending the dollars.
If you are still reading, bless you. Thank you for following along with my ramble about my Vegas experiences. One things for sure, whether I’m feeding bulls or headed to the performance, you won’t catch me without some sort of turquoise on. It’s even in my wedding band. I can’t wait to see the outfits everyone puts together for the PBR & NFR, and don’t forget to tag us in your pictures if you are wearing TWC!
Below is a picture taken by Brooke Juma of our best two year old this year! DZ 920 Smooth Gangster. We are excited to see what he will accomplish in the bright lights of Vegas!
Stay tuned for another blog post while we are in Vegas! I will try to keep everyone updated on Instagram stories with some behind the scenes action. I am also planning something special out there with Madi Wagner Photography that I can’t wait to share with y’all!
